Tina Turner and the French Connection

During her illustrious career, Tina Turner built up a loyal fan base in France. She owned a house in the Provence-Alpes-Cotes d'Azur region, and visited the village of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat many times. Locals remember her as a glamorous, generous and shrewd businesswoman, with an eye for good wine and a love of fine cuisine.

In this documentary, she talks frankly about her relationship with Ike — a sadistic manipulator who left her struggling to pick up the pieces of her career (and her life). She recalls her own slow transcendence of fear, as well as her transformation from a shy chanteuse in the early ’60s to the diva-warrior of “Private Dancer” and beyond. But she also reveals the hoops she had to jump through, for nearly a decade, to attain that success.

The film’s most moving segment is a candid discussion with Tina in 2019, when she was 79 years old. She discusses the burden that her life story became, a feeling that is reinforced by listening to the harrowing track “I Got You Babe.”

As for the movie, it’s a head-pounding thriller. William Friedkin’s editing is brilliant, and he makes full use of his locations to create tension. The scene where he sets up a fake robbery at a New York diner is particularly tense, and he wastes little time on diversionary action scenes. It’s a rat-a-tat film, but its relentless pace makes it a riveting experience.

While it’s clear that the director has a certain admiration for his subject, the film never becomes an hagiography. It’s an edge-of-your-seat thriller, and it doesn’t need moralizing to justify its thrills. This is an exemplary piece of entertainment that deserves to be seen in the best theaters.

The french connection tina stars Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider, who are as formidable and charismatic as ever. It’s a gripping story, and Hackman and Scheider have a real partnership that shines throughout. Despite a racial slur that was cut in 2023, The French Connection is a cinematic treasure.

The flagship store for the popular high street brand, French Connection on Oxford Street offers a wide variety of women’s and men’s fashion. From pretty mini dresses to denim staples, this shop has something for everyone. In addition to the fashion, this flagship store carries a selection of homeware items and accessories. The first floor has the BRWD coffee shop, which is famous around London for their expertly brewed and delicious coffee and cakes.
